Possible essay/term paper on Moby Dick by Herman Melville.
!. Write a COMPLETE sentence that states the argument you might wish to develop. Remember that the word “how” does not express an argument. You might wish to start with such words as “I contend/argue/sustain that...” or “My proposal is ...” or “I pose that ...”. You should also remember that form and content are indivisible; they are, as Henry James would say, the needle and the thread of any text.
2. Then write four complete sentences that introduce the different aspects you might wish to develop to sustain your argument.
3. An alternative for those who want to enter the field of giving talks at conferences is an abstract. This should state your argument and the ways in which you will develop it in 500 words maximum. Remember that you are one of many who are dying to participate in this conference and will be judged by a board of organisers.
4. Please do not forget that you must have a title for your possible essay/term paper/abstract.
